What Is A Two Way Radio? What You Should Know
When I first heard about two way radios, I was like ?what is that?? I figured it was a radio, as in FM/AM, something you listen to music on. That is not the case. A two way radio is simply another word for a CB radio or a walkie-talkie.
It?s funny how often we as a society assume we know what something is by the way that it sounds. On the other hand, it?s also quite comical that people name things with terms that don?t sound like what it is.
While two way radios do in fact utilize radio frequencies to send and receive sound (and sometimes beeps, Morse code or other info), they are in no way a radio in the conventional sense. By conventional, I mean the way society generally understands the word.
Two way radios nowadays are very modern wireless CB radios that anyone can purchase at a local store. You may want a set for personal reasons or business reasons.
Business applications are very obvious. For example, if you have an assistant that you need to get a hold of easily at all times, or during certain work-related events, a two way radio can be handy. The distance span is usually only a few miles or so, so it would only be helpful if you were within the specified distance from the person you are trying to communicate with.
What makes two way radios helpful is that they are better than cell phones when used in short distances, since you can instantly talk to the other person. The other nice thing is that they do one thing and do it well, and are user friendly. Many of today?s cell phones are very complicated, and make it difficult to do even the most basic thing they are supposedly intended for to begin with (making a phone call!).
A two way radio can be very helpful for personal use as well. One such example is that they can be used in lieu of an intercom system around the home. Let?s suppose you have a large house and want to be able to tell your kids when dinner is ready. You can scream across the house, buy an expensive intercom system, or just use an inexpensive set of two way radios.
Two way radios have another advantage for personal use, over the built-in intercom system. Intercom systems are usually mounted, and therefore their location is fixed. A two way radio can be moved throughout the house, or attached to a belt loop, or kept in a pocket. They can also be taken outside.
This is really handy if you need you keep tabs on your kids or other loved ones (such as those with medical problems or special needs) when they go outside of the home (or wherever you are).
A two way radio is invaluable for a multitude of situations and applications, for both personal and business use. You should pick up a set. I did, and they are seriously worth their weight in gold, and didn?t set me back much (very affordable!).
